Adventures in Brick Lane.

image.
Yesterday I took K to Shoreditch for a tour of Hoxton Square, Brick Lane, Whitechapel, and Spitalfields Market. We explored vintage shops, bookstores, and art galleries, and channelled our inner hipster (with a little resistance).

Hoxton Square is the heart of the art scene in Shoreditch, and home to the White Cube Gallery. We didn't make it into the Gallery today, but that will have to be for another visit.

Hoxton Square.

This next little exhibition was interesting timing given it was the day after the Election.

Some inspiration...

A great 1950's style Fish and Chips Shop.

For everyone to enjoy...

We were advised by a Vancouver blogger to head to Tayyabs for the best Curry in the city. Apparently this hotspot is often frequented by the Kings of Leon. While it was delicious, I can't say it was miles above the rest. But to each their own. This being said, we did eat our weight in Curry, Pakoras, Naan Bread, and Mango Lassi's and quickly slipped into a food coma.

After Lunch, we headed to Spitalfields Market, and then for a quick coffee to warm up and perk up before it was time for me to head to class.

BEST Ping Pong Table EVER!

Some might argue that we hadn't yet worked off our curry, but we then headed to Verde & Company Ltd for an afternoon pick me up.

reviewing the daily catch.

Helpful hints...

While we were in the area on a Wednesday, the best day to head to Brick Lane is a Sunday as it's market day. You'll see the Columbia Road Flower market (as long as you go before 3pm) and the market stalls along Brick Lane. Just like Portobello Road, this is bound to get a little hectic on the weekends, so if you'd like to avoid the crowds, go on a weekday as we did.
